The Anatomy of a Stuffed and Stitched Chair

The Anatomy of a Stuffed and Stitched Chair

We have been working with the last traditional upholsterers in the United Kingdom, Fleming & Howland on the documentation of their construction processes. The project included recreating a chair using ‘dying’ techniques and construction methods as both a reflective archival process but also as an exemplar of craft.

The photography, by Xavier Young is split into two distinct sections. One set documents the working environment and materials of the workshop, while the other closely records the tools used by the upholders.
